When burning cinders filled the Northern sky
And high above the earth the stone-wrought bridge
A blood-red banner waves its crown on high
And vied in bitter struggle on the ridge,
Then the Starfolk lords no longer live,
But in a heedless darkness vent their ire
As for undying death their manhood give,
And give the reborn Feihoth to the fire.
So the scarlet banners gain the spire,
And bat-nosed monsters shake their horns and roar,
And so the fortress falls which ancients built
And harp of man is heard there nevermore.
But still a dreamer stands on a bridge of stone
And trembling, sounds his battle-horn alone.
