Amborian Composition - "Eirukja inla Sencana..."

Eirukja inla Sencana erayis feiram ran-ika Anhurorupeim panathases.

“For far away, in shadowed caverns grim / Tall Sencan forged the Blade of Ice that Breathes…”

Gloss:
  • eirukja = adverb, “far away,” adverbial form of eirukos “long, far, great in distance”
  • inla = adjective, “tall.” Note that inla is an archaic form—a more typical usage would be in.
  • Sencana = noun, proper name, literally “The wise one who is wise” (the name is a compound of two words, one from Old Dalian, the other from Old Treian; both mean “wisdom”). Name of the first king of the Ambori, who forged the Hurorupeim and led his people to freedom out of the Black Hills. Note here archaic final -a, which has dropped off of most personal names by the end of the Second Eon.
  • erayis = adjective, “harsh, grim”
  • feiram = adjective, “shadowy”
  • ran = noun, “hill, mine”
  • ika = preposition “in, on.” The dative case endings have been lost by this time, but the preposition is still indicated by appending it to its main object.
  • Hurorupeim = noun, proper name, “the Sword of Ice.” The sword of kings which Sencan forged when he led the Ambori to freedom, the symbol and token of legitimate rule. Here in the accusative singular.
  • panatha = verb, “to forge.” Present here in its Preterite 3rd Person Singular Indicative Perfect form.
Recording of pronunciation.
