IV. The Hymn to the North Star

Raos Polestar sought our father,
Sought the wide-famed Lanenomen
When amid the field of battle,
Gore-stained, grizzly field of battle,
He called him out from sin-doomed Starland
To a journey long, uncertain,
To a pathway paved with sorrows.

Do not fail to hear our crying,
Now when darkness thick and heavy
Seeks to choke the ancient ocean,
Sea you promised Lanenomen.

Raos Polestar, brightest beacon
Sent to mankind under Starlight,
Long the Children of the Water
Praised your name amid the darkness
When the bonds of Orkon vile
Heavy lay upon our Fathers
Under womb of earth imprisoned.

Do not fail to come and comfort
We who, shackled by the shadow,
Gather round our father’s anvil,
Wait the coming of the morning.

Raos Polestar, help of heroes,
Long ago from heaven’s portals
Drove the hateful host of Vishnarr,
Sent them reeling from the Heavens
By his burning sword of vengeance.

By your burning, still the north-wind.
By your light bring safe to harbor
All who wander, under Starlight,
The paths of sorrow men have known.
