IV. The Hymn of the Day on the Feast of Malfaloth

Four verses.

Now the Great Deceiver Vishnarr
And the lord of loathsome dragons
(Margloth, so the people name him,
Children of the Mountain-fire)
Up the stair of Lower Heaven
Wreathed in Winter’s icy storm-clouds
Do ascend. The Hunter’s palace
Stands before them, now unguarded.

Now Onmanda, World’s First Mother,
Sleeps as thieves disturb her resting.
Margloth gorges on the treasures,
Gold and rubies in the palace,
Weighty trash the Hunter gathered.
Now a single golden apple
Glistening in Winter’s twilight
Incites his lust; now Spring awakens.

Now the song of Fair Onmanda
All the Children sing together,
Driving back the winds of Winter,
Foiling Vishnarr, Great Deceiver.
But the scepter of the Heavens—
Ruling all the fates of Mankind—
Vishnarr seizes, music fleeing,
Bringing darkness Under Starlight.

Now the Darkness Under Starlight
All the Children of the Water
Here lament, and yet, awaiting
Sencan’s victory in battle
On the bloody plain of Denthfeld,
Now we raise our voices, singing:
“By Hurorupeim the Shining
Sencan freed us from all evils!”
