VIII. Verses for the Four Odes on the Afterfeast of Weixranbo

Four verses.

Many lives did fair Feiala
Live and suffer in the darkess
When she heard the creature singing,
Heard the singing of the Guardian.
Fair Feiala wept to hear it.

“I first loved, before the Children,
This fair Island, and the waters
Of the wine-dark sea unblemished,
Long before the Water’s Children
Came to dwell beside the waters.

“I was here before the Children;
Ere the coming of the traitor,
Orkon, foeman of your people.
He who fell from Middle Heaven
Has no right to claim these waters.

So he sang, wordless, ancient,
While the eons whirled around her,
And she saw the ageless waiting,
Heard the thoughts unthought by mortals
In the music, wordless, ancient.
