II. Verses for the Four Odes on Ijanral, to be used in ferial seasons

Eight verses.

Alyeitalya on the hilltop
Danced, before the kings yet ruled
By the Sea which Raos promised
To the heirs of Lanenomen.
Alyeitalya, wrapped in saffron,
Danced for joy at early morning.

Alyeitalya on the hilltop,
On the fragrant Hill of Maidens,
Danced in Summer, and in Winter,
Danced in green and blessed Springtime.
Foot on hilltop drawing upward,
Drawing clear and crystal waters.

Lanenomen saw her dancing
In the day before the rule
Of his seed beside those waters.
Lanenomen saw her dancing
On the fragrant Hill of Maidens,
Wrapped in saffron, and he loved her.

Lanenomen loved a maiden,
Loved a fair and swanfoot maiden,
Who he saw one happy morning
Dancing, moving like a feather
On the airs of Lower Heaven.
Lanenomen saw and loved her.

Lanenomen called unto her,
Gently calling under moonlight
When at evening, bearing torches,
Maidens came unto the Hilltop.
“Alyeitalya! Swanfoot Maiden!
A lord of Starland finds you lovely!

The Lord of Starland found her lovely.
Many gifts did Lanenomen,
Lord of Treians, gently offer,
Placed a band of silver round her,
Called the maidens there to witness
All the faithfulness he promised.

Lanenomen to her father
Many precious gifts than offered,
Gifts of Starland: gleaming jewels,
Heavy gold in twisting ringlets,
Scarlet robes and costly purple,
Living crystals under mountains.

Lanenomen at the wedding
Danced with Swanfoot Alyeitalya—
Danced before the Hill of Maidens
While around the ancient fir trees
Kept their long and silent vigil
Long before the First Kings ruled.
