Fanhal’s banner, high and holy
Over grave of mighty warriors,
Fallen champions of the people,
Waved aloft, with silver gilded.
Raos promised the son of Fanhal:
“By this banner you will triumph.”
Orufal a shrine would raise there,
Ere he too would fall in battle.
All the might of Fanhal’s heroes
Could not stay the hand of Orkon—
Not though Varfeil, late to battle,
Brought with him a host of spear-men.
Then the Guardian, first of Seven—
Seven swan-things cursed by Heaven
War to wage with ancient Vishnarr—
Then the Guardian of the Waters
Rose to combat Orkon’s forces.
Orkon shook to hear that trumpet.
