Verses for the prayers of Hasanyah the Queen, to be sung at the Midnight Song: XII. For the Fast of Summer

Six verses.

Now the shining Car of Summer
Highest in the Lower Heaven
Burns, when back the vicious forces
Of the passions from the Isle
Fanhal drove, with help of Heaven,
When from depths the Guardian rose up.

Let the bright illumination
Of my inward senses, dreamed
By the midnight of my passions
Wake my heart to watchful fasting
While I wait the Feast of Summer
When the light will linger longest.

When the light will linger longest,
Then my heart will sing, unhindered
By the darkness which besets it.
Fasting leads to joyous feasting,
Sorrow which we meet with gladness
Heals our souls, sustains our longing.

Strong within me is my longing
For the light of Deepest Heaven,
Where beyond the shining starlight
Nakeinela, First, Unfounded,
Ever rests beyond the passions
Which so easily beset me.

Let us, resting now at Midnight,
Contemplate that Deepest Heaven
Where the Maker, who once stood here
By these waters, crystal, flowing,
Let us rest within the Vigil,
Sing the hymns beside the waters.

Soon the sun will shine upon us,
Soon the rosy dawn will find us,
Now the sleeping world around us
Slumbers, heedless of the rising
Of the sun of shining summer
Which reveals the hearts of mankind.
